Belgium is a great country to visit with toddlers! The country offers various attractions and activities that are suitable for young children. If you're skeptical, here are a few reasons why Belgium can be a great destination for families with toddlers:

1. Child-Friendly Attractions: Belgium has numerous child-friendly attractions that are sure to keep toddlers entertained. There are several parks and playgrounds throughout the country where little ones can run, play, and explore. Additionally, many museums and cultural sites have dedicated children's areas or interactive exhibits designed to engage young minds.

2. Amusement Parks: Belgium is home to several amusement parks that cater to young children. One popular park is Plopsaland De Panne, which features rides, shows, and attractions based on beloved children's characters. Another option is Walibi Belgium, which offers a wide range of rides and entertainment suitable for different age groups.

3. Natural Beauty: Belgium has beautiful natural landscapes that can be enjoyed by the whole family. From coastal areas to forests and parks, there are plenty of opportunities for toddlers to explore and connect with nature. The country also has a network of well-maintained walking and cycling paths that are stroller-friendly, making it easy to enjoy outdoor activities with young children.

4. Family-Friendly Accommodation: Belgium offers a range of family-friendly accommodation options, including hotels, holiday parks, and vacation rentals. Many of these accommodations have amenities such as play areas, swimming pools, and childcare services, which can make traveling with toddlers more convenient and comfortable.

5. Public Transportation: Belgium has a well-developed and efficient public transportation system, including trains, trams, and buses. This makes it easy to navigate the country with toddlers, as strollers are generally allowed on public transport. Additionally, the country is relatively small, so travel times between cities and attractions are usually short, minimizing the chances of toddlers getting restless during long journeys.

Where to Stay:

When we visited Belgium, we used Brussels as our home base. We find having one home base is easier when traveling with a toddler when using Ubers or public transportation. We then took day trips to Ghent and Bruges which were both easy train rides away.

We stayed at the Hoxton Brussels Hotel which was a beautiful modern hotel only a 17 minute walk from the city centre, 22 minutes from the airport, and a 5-10 minute walk from the train station.

WHAT TO DO with Your Toddler:

Brussels

  • Visit the Atomium

  • Walk towards the Grand Palace and be sure to pick up some Belgium chocolate and waffles along the way

  • Take a family friendly waffle making class at Brussels Waffle Workshop. Here's a link to the one we booked https://gyg.me/HyWB6efA

  • Stop to see the peeing boy (Manneken Pis). Your kids will definitely get a good chuckle

  • Visit Mini Europe

Ghent

  • Walk through the colorful Graffiti Street

  • Take a canal boat tour

Bruges

While traveling with toddlers can have its challenges, Belgium offers a range of child-friendly attractions, natural beauty, and convenient amenities that can make it an enjoyable destination for the whole family!
